Sillyon ancient city – Attractions near Belek
Sillyon Ancient City is one of the historical places to visit near Belek and is located in Serik district of Antalya province. It is approximately 20 km away from the center of Belek and 32 km away from Antalya. It is located on a high hill between the Ancient Cities of Aspendos and Perge. Sillyon, which is among the richest cities of the Ancient Period, is also among the most important castles of the Ancient Era.
Since the Ancient City is built on a hill with steep rocks, there are no walls surrounding the ancient city. In the ancient city, trench areas, walls and towers were built on the western and southwestern sides, where the slope is low.
Since no work has been done on the ancient city, which looks like a castle from a distance, there is not much information about the ruins of the ancient city.
Sillyon Ancient City Ruins
The settlement ruins of the Sillyon Ancient City, which is considered by some to be among the most important settlements of the Pamphylia Region, are spread on the hill slopes. The Acropolis of the ancient city bears traces of the Hellenistic Period and is surrounded by walls.
The gate of the ancient city is located on the walls on the western side of the hill on which the city is built. On the upper parts of the hill, in the northwest direction, there are residential ruins, streets, the Seljuk Mosque, the Byzantine Tower and the water cistern. On the southwestern part of the hill, there is a theater with a capacity of 8,000 people and an Odeon.
